Press Release: Neighbors United for Ward 6 Raises More than $193,000 by July 31 Filing Deadline from 1,400 Contributions

Meanwhile, Recall Charles Allen Campaign Remains under Investigation for Illegal Coordination with DC Republican Party, Super PAC

As of the July 31 reporting deadline, Neighbors United for Ward 6, the campaign backing Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen and opposing the dangerous recall effort, has raised more than $193,000 from 1,400 contributions, with the majority of the contributions (more than 60%) coming from Ward 6 donors and the vast majority (nearly 90%)  from DC residents. The campaign is not taking corporate contributions.

“As we approach our opponents’ August 12 petition filing deadline, it’s clear Ward 6 and DC residents see the recall campaign for what it is: a flagging effort that offers no solutions and lies about our laws while courting right-wing interests to attack the District,” said Charles Allen. “Ward 6 neighbors have been ready for this to be over since it started, and we expect it will be soon. They’re frustrated by this waste of time and money, and they want their elected leaders focused on solving problems to improve our neighborhoods.”

As a reminder, the recall campaign failed to file a complete financial report for their initial fundraising for several months, hiding the fact that the majority of their money came from right-wing donors and special interests. And the recall campaign remains under formal investigation with DC’s Office of Campaign Finance for illegally coordinating with a supposedly independent SuperPAC – the DC Neighborhood Alliance – and the DC Republican Party.

In contrast, Neighbors United for Ward 6 represents a broad coalition of Ward 6 and DC supporters, including: Planned Parenthood, multiple labor organizations representing the working people of the District, the DC Democratic Party, the Ward 6 Democrats, the DC Latino Caucus, the Capital Stonewall Democrats, Sierra Club DC, the DC Association of Realtors, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network Action Fund, DC for Democracy, Jews United for Justice Action Fund, and Greater Greater Washington.
